This fast & easy banana blueberry smoothie recipe is full of gut-loving nutrients that'll keep your digestive health on-track. And it tastes absolutely amazing!


Often the American diet can cause some upset to your digestive track. This fast and yummy recipe is great for keeping your gut healthy and you can even make them in advance if your mornings are hectic and busy. You can store these smoothies in smoothie bags and toss in the freezer or refrigerator. This ensures it stays fresh, and the vitamin mineral content won't decrease as time passes. Then the day you want a smoothie, simply pour the items from the bag into your blender, add milk, and blend away.

Before we get into the recipe, let's discuss the amazing benefits of these ingredients.


  • Plant Based Milk- packs in healthy servings of Vitamin E, Vitamin D, Vitamin A, and calcium

  • Wild Blueberries- act as prebiotics, which are plant substances that promote the growth of probiotics in the digestive tract

  • Spinach- packed with fiber for gut health and regularity

  • Nut butter – Adding nut butter such as peanut, almond, or cashew will add a nice dose of healthy plant-based protein. For nut allergies, sub with sunflower butter. The best nut butter for gut health is almond butter. Almond butter is rich in vitamins and minerals, specifically vitamin E, fiber and heart-healthy fats. Almonds also contain high amounts of fibre and prebiotics, which promote a healthy balance inside your gut.

  • Banana – Economical, loaded with fiber, vitamins, and minerals, bananas make a great filler for smoothies while improving gut health. Use frozen or fresh.

Ingredients

You only need a few simple ingredients to make the best-tasting blueberry smoothie recipe.

  • 1 cup plant milk of choice (we prefer oat milk)

  • 1/2 cup frozen wild blueberries

  • large handful of spinach

  • 1 tbsp. of your fav nut butter

  • 1 banana, chopped


Directions

  1. Blend all of the smoothie ingredients in a high-speed blender until fully combined. Pour into a glass and enjoy!

This is a very popular smoothie in my household so here are some pro tips from my family to yours:


  • Using frozen blueberries is the key to getting an extra thick smoothie. Frozen fruit not only makes your drinks cold but allows the liquid used to thicken up into a creamier, thicker consistency.

  • We like to add 1 tablespoon Hemp Seeds or flax seed. Flax seed is rich in omega-3 fatty acids and hemp seed is great for adding extra protein, fiber, and healthy fats.

  • We also love adding frozen avocado to ours. It adds creaminess to your smoothie and is packed with added benefits and healthy fats.
